As Career and Technical Education (CTE) month® ends, we reflected on the continued investment in new, renovated, or expanded CTE spaces. These areas focus on academic and technical skills, leadership and 21st century skills through career and technical student organizations, and work-based learning.
Curriculum in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Agriculture, or Math (STEAM) and Technical Education are critical components of successful CTE. Updates and expansions to these spaces provide value to students, and we also see benefits for higher education institutions, businesses, and industries across Wisconsin.
Did you know that according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, 58% of the hottest projected jobs between 2018-2028 in Wisconsin require CTE skills? K-12 students who gain experience in these areas are better prepared for high-wage, high-demand careers in several industries such as healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing, and construction to name a few.

The recent improvements in K-12 education are not only preparing students for 21st century jobs, but they are helping to increase student enrollment in these programs. One district we partnered with had an 85% increase in students taking CTE-related courses after the renovations and additions were complete. Nearly 30% of the students were female.
