Milwaukee World Festival Inc. Administration Building
Recognized as “The World’s Largest Music Festival”, Summerfest hosts about one million people each summer. Milwaukee World Festival Inc. (MWF), the nonprofit corporate parent to the festival, recently underwent an extensive renovation at the organization’s new headquarters building, located at 639 E. Polk Street. The newly renovated building previously served as Summerfest’s repair shop, tool shop and warehouse. It wasn’t until the reconstruction of the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge, in 2014, that MWF decided to transform the warehouse into the organization’s new administration offices. Through the renovations and additions, MWF was able to obtain a more permanent residence, with adequate space for expanded operations.
Just a few hundred feet away from Summerfest’s South Gate, the renovated 15,000 square foot facility is now home to spacious, clean and open offices, boasting a bright and harmonious home for Summerfest. The large storefront windows, facing west into the 3rd Ward, were once garage doors leading into
the old work space.
Additionally, sustainability was a prominent design feature for the renovated facility. MWF was seeking usability, along with the sustainable benefits of a green roof. The centerpiece of the space is a semi-intensive garden with native grasses and colorful perennials, surrounded by lounge furniture. An extensive green roof system covers the elevators and restroom penthouse, as well as an overhang canopy at the south entrance. The project is seeking LEED Gold Certification.
